Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata.

In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. It is tagging a website and saving it for later. Instead of saving them to your web browser, you are saving them to the web. And, because your bookmarks are online, you can easily share them with others. Not only can you save your favorite websites and send them to your friends, but you can also look at what other people have found interesting enough to tag. Most social bookmarking sites allow you to browse through the items based on most popular, recently added, or belonging to a certain category like shopping, technology, politics, blogging, news, sports, etc. You can even search through what people have bookmarked by typing in what you are looking for in the search tool. In fact, social bookmarking sites are being used as intelligent search engines. Social bookmarking sites is a great source of news, and they also offer the ability to participate in the discussion by leaving comments on popular news items.

Benefits: Social bookmarking and social news allow you to specifically target what you want to see. Instead of going into a search engine, typing something in, and then searching for that needle in a haystack, you can quickly narrow down the items to what you are looking for.
Because many of the sites display recently added lists and popular links, you can both stay current and see relevant information. For example, let's say you are interested in learning more about social shopping. You might search for social shopping on one of these sites and come up with two articles: one with a hundred votes and one with two votes. It's pretty easy to tell that the article with a hundred votes might be your best choice. And this is a lot easier than putting "social shopping" into a search engine and seeing page after page after page of links that may or may not be useful.

So, what started out as a way to send bookmarks to friends has really grown into social search engines? You no longer need to page through thousands of results to find a needle in a haystack. Now, you can simply go to a social bookmarking site, choose the category or tag that matches your interest, and find the most popular websites.

How to Utilize Social Networking!!

hai to all

This is an anoher article which i have studied......
Got a website to promote? Consider social networking as a platform to announce yourself and your internet business. If you incorporate social networking and Internet participation into your marketing efforts online, you'll begin to see your profits grow in response. Just how much depends upon the amount of time, effort and hard-work you're willing to put into it.
If you are a member of an online forum and sign-off with your name or send e-mails (as most of us do) perhaps you are aware that you can create a signature line. Often, you can choose a little smiley or some other icon or even upload your own photograph and attach it to a signature that you've Created - much like the one we create in Outlook. Then, add your website name directly underneath your signature. Have more than one website? Then go slow. List only one website at each forum that you belong to. Some of the social network sites like MySpace, don't like blatant self-advertising, but you can discreetly put in a small blurb with your signature.

Then join-in the talk at forums or blogs and post your name at the end. Easier said than done; though because the hardest part of social networking is finding the time to participate, especially if you have a full-time job If you just lurk around, reading the posts without participating, you won't get the attention you need. So, only join the groups and forums that you really need an association with. Then, each time you post, you will create an association in the reader's mind between your signature line, your product and your name.

How to Promote website using Social Networking

hai to all

Recently i read an article about Social Networking..and How it is useful to Promote our website and what home work we have to do before entering into Social networking...Here is a brief description abot Social newtworking and How to use it.....
This very simple-to-understand 5 step process will get you on your way quickly to a place where you can take advantage of all that online social networking offers the business you love and want to grow!!

  1. Understand Your Market: - As with all your marketing efforts, you must be clear what ONE market you are targeting with your products/services, and what MEASURABLE outcomes you are striving to fulfill by reaching that target group.
  2. Understand the Social Networking Sites: - Understand which Social Networking sites serve what marketplace. Create a list or a spreadsheet listing the social networks you think would be a place your target markets uses. List key tools for each site and how you see those tools are being used by others in similar businesses to your own.
  3. Prioritize the Sites: -After you’ve determined which two or three social networks are the best for you and your business, prioritize their importance to you. After that write out for each site a list of all the components of that site where you will need to provide content. Prioritize those lists as well.
  4. Write Down Your Specific Goals for Each Site: -For each site on your list, write out your specific goals for the social site that will help you reach your bigger marketing goals.
For example: Drive traffic to a page on my website promoting the opening of a new exhibit which also provides an RSVP link.
  5. Create a Timeline: -Finally, lay out a timeline for your overall marketing plan (if you haven’t already done this), and plug into it the goals and tasks you outlined in the previous steps. Put the specific tasks into your calendar or daily scheduling tool, AND THEN DO THEM.
As you become more familiar with the tasks and the time it takes to do them, you can adjust your schedule to better reflect that reality.
The key to using ANY marketing tool is to DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST, including creating your strategy and coming up with the tactics and the tasks BEFORE you start to implement – which in the case of Social Networking Sites means working on your Profiles? I guarantee you will use A LOT less time, and you’ll first do the things that will move your business forward and then have extra time to experiment with the other cool stuff you’ll find on all these sites.

Cheers!!
